New Hope in Haiti featured on Atlanta's 11 Alive Newscast!
With all the controversy in Haiti this past week, it may be
easy to forget the country is now one year removed from the earthquake
that shook the nation's ground and its culture.
In the last 12 months, many metro Atlantans have played a big
part in helping to restore some sense of normalcy for the Haitian
people.
"The
Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed
me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and
release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year
of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in
Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead
of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah
61:1-3
What is poverty?
Poverty is more than lack of basic physical needs. Poverty is helplessness, hopelessness, psychological depression, and personal worthlessness. “The problem goes well beyond the material dimension, so the solutions must go beyond the material as well.” (When
Helping Hurts: S. Corbett and B. Fikkert. pg.54)
Our goal
“The goal is to see people restored to being what God created them to be: people who understand that they are created in the image of God with the gifts, abilities, and capacity to make decisions and to effect change in the world around them; and people who steward their lives, communities, resources, and relationships in order to bring glory to God.” (When
Helping Hurts: S. Corbett and B. Fikkert. pg.81)
How
we are meeting our goals:
Spiritual
Needs: Leadership Academy and Personal
Ministry Training up the next generation of leaders, equipping them to
bring about change within their country of Haiti. Restoring hope in the
hearts of young Haitians. Change can happen but it must happen from inside
of Haiti and it must happen on the inside of Haitians. More
